There are now fast-charging stations installed in Bowen, Cairns, Carmila, Childers, Gatton, Hamilton, Gold Coast Airport (Coolangatta), Mackay, Marlborough, Maryborough, Miriam Vale, Rockhampton, Springfield, Sunshine Coast (Cooroy), Townsville, Toowoomba and Tully.
At this stage, EV drivers can use the fast-charging stations at no cost. Also the EVs are topped up with low carbon power, the energy supplied at the stations will be bought through green energy credits or offsets.
The state government has a vision to encourage the uptake of EVs in Queensland, getting as many people as possible on board the EV revolution, as part of the state’s transition to a low-emissions future.

I don't know Australian geography, but is that really 210km between chargers? Going to be a brave driver that takes their EV down that road.
ReplyDeleteDepends which generation of EV we run - the trunk of the stage 1 highway is not a match for first gen or many of the 50km PHEVs, for sure! But stage 2 might be? (I have first gen leaf) I guess its being built for the next generation of mainly BEVs that are about to come in ...
DeleteSeems to be that Stage 1 is for longer range 'next gen' EVs - maybe stage 2 fills in the gaps?
DeleteI used to drive from Brisbane to Coolangatta, that was pretty flat. I wouldn't worry about the 210km between the chargers. It's a distance that the Leaf 1 can do too. I see this initiative quite good. FNQ is an amazing place and now you can drive up for free :P
